Stand up straight with your shoulders back

Image
It brings me great joy to kick of this 12 part journey with an article on the first rule of Jordan Peterson's book (12 rules for life) which I understood to be the desperate call for self confidence and self belief . In this world of ours it is easier to be sad, depressed, frustrated, disappointed and just negative than it is to be happy, confident, fulfilled, grateful and just positive. To me this is as a result of : The need to fit in. The pressure from peer success. Supposed failure in achieving your goals Societal judgement Lack of self confidence From this amazing rule, I understood that the only way people will ever take you seriously is if you would take yourself seriously as well. A lot of people believe power and wealth to be the outright currency in a society which lives in mediocrity, shuns those who try to break free and praise those who make it. A pastor from my church always said "If you do good people will talk and if you do bad they will also  talk" . ...

The 12 rules for life

Image
I have always had a feeling that psychology holds a very important role in our lives. This entire blog has been all about how to change your habits and mindset to enjoy the benefits that come with it. Jordan Peterson wrote a book which he titled the 12 rules of life and I thought it was life changing. So I have decided to dedicate the next 4 weeks trying my very best to explain what I got from the book and maybe convince you to get the book. So the 12 rules in summary are : 1. Stand up straight with your shoulders back 2. Treat yourself like you are someone responsible for helping 3. Make friends with those people who want the best for you. 4. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday and not to who someone else is today 5. Don't let your children do anything that will make you dislike them 6. Put your house in perfect order before you criticize the world 7. Do what is meaning and not what is expedient 8. Tell the truth or at least don't lie 9. Assume that the person you are...

Continuous Improvement is a must

Peer pressure comes in many forms, the ugliest being peer pressure which would lead into drugs and alcohol abuse. However there is one type of peer pressure that is hardly spoken off or is just brushed aside and justified as harmless competition. This type of peer pressure is often found in young adults say from the ages of 18 going onwards to the mid 30s. It honestly feels as if life is just a huge competition to see who makes it better than the next person. I will not lie...what used to be the hardest thing for me was to accept is defeat and this is because I have always seen myself as a highly competitive person. It is only most recently that I discovered pacing yourself by using others' progress is not only counter productive but it is bad for your own mental health. The reason behind this is : There will always be someone prettier, faster, more intelligent or more likeable than you are. As a matter of fact there will always be someone who is better than you. People come from d...

Set your mind to it

Image
"There is nothing you can not do if you set you mind to it" ~ Rick Hansen. This may not be the first time you have heard this and it definitely will not be the last. It has always baffled me as why nearly everyone I hear talk about success either in private conversations, seminars, songs and videos always always talks about how the difference between winning and losing is your mind . For the entire year that I have been writing articles for this blog my entire focus was on developing one's mind and in turn develop my own in the process. The journey has been difficult and my one confession would be I almost gave up within the first month. I was basically averaging 4-6 viewers for 4 weeks straight and a part of me was questioning my insistence on continuing with this. The honest truth is my belief and promise to try and help at least one person every week was stronger than the statistics that were trying discouraging me. I got the idea from  a book I read titled Love Revo...

Ask and you shall receive

Image
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you" Matthew 7 vs 7. This has been one of the most used verses in the entire bible and a lot of its users have their own different interpretations about it. In my view this scripture presents a condition and a result. The condition for receiving is asking so if you do not ask then you can not receive. This the implies that whenever you ask you have received but a lot of people have asked and not received...Why is that? The bible talks about faith a lot and it even goes on to say without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11 vs 6). What this says to me is any action that is not done in faith is not pleasing to God and likewise any prayer that is not based in faith is not pleasing to God.  So my question to you this week is D o you really believe that your prayers have been answered ? " Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have recei...
