Locked in a room for improvement

Image
Today marks the beginning of a 21 day nation-wide lockdown which resulted from a global pandemic threatening to wipe out a lot of people from the face of the planet. It may all sound unreal but this is actually happening and for a lot of people, depression and boredom will make these 21 days very unbearable. I was going through an in class test we did at school and there was a comment from the lecturer that said " There is room for improvement ". Like any sensible student i ignored the comment the first time i read it but it actually makes a lot of sense to me now that i am locked up in my house for the next 3 or so weeks. There is plenty of room for improvement now and i will have no excuse for not having bettered certain aspects of my life. My plan for the isolation is pretty simple and perhaps it will yield the same results for you as it will for me : Develop a group of strong morning habits The morning like i have always stated is the most important part of the day

You are still in charge

At a time when the world is literally on fire and everything just seems to be crumbling all around you, it is hard to stay positive and optimistic for a brighter tomorrow. This has been a tough year already due to economic and health disasters rocking the nation and the world as a whole. Personally i have had days were I just instinctively felt like giving up and living a passive life because being proactive was proving to be hard. There are times were I just felt an uncontrollable wave of negative energy and I almost gave in but I have been conditioning my mind for times like these and I am confident we will be alright. I thought I would share some of the things that have helped me keep a level head and focus on the end goal rather than be distracted by the process instead of enjoying it. Remain grateful I know it may seem impractical to find good in every situation life springs up on you especially in such trying times. You are right....it takes a lot of dedication and practice to

Aim to be proactive

Proactive : The act of  creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened.  The definition alone is talking about 2 kinds of people: 1. The person who just responds to a situation only after it has happened. This type of person is reactive.  2. The person who chooses to become master of their own life and take charge of how their life plays out. When we know who we are and we accept who we are - then we can proactively deal with the conflicts in our life.  Proactive people actively run their life, but reactive people allow life to run them. If we are uncomfortable in our own skin, it causes us to deny our reality.  We try to become who we think we should become instead of accepting ourselves. Knowing and accepting our strengths and weaknesses helps us take responsibility for our life.  When we don’t accept ourselves, we avoid situations and make excuses for our actions. The truth is it is much easier to be a reactive person as oppose

Living a passionate life

"A life without passion is not living, its merely existing" ~ Leo Buscaglia. Passion can be defined as    a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. For me this means an uncontrollable urge to do something, to make a change. Most people have a passion for sports meaning that they have an uncontrollable urge to do anything sports related which is why you can find a student being an active member of several teams in several disciplines. This is simply because they can not help but be on the field. Passion brings happiness because once you discover what you are passionate you start living a narrow life  . I received some advice from a colleague and it changed the way i saw things, i decided to share 3 important things he touched on : Don't live a limited life Growing up we have always been told to stay in our lane and not bash into the world so much. We were told not to make too much noise and just live a normal simple life. Th

Everything is a season

I remember in primary school when we were taught about the different seasons and their characteristics. At the time this was nothing more than an afternoon jingle we always recited but growing up I began realizing that it was a life lesson on its own. Life comes with different seasons which represent different   times. The problem we often have is that when things are bad, we forget that they were once good and they will get good, equally when things are good we forget that they were once bad and they will get bad. It is very easy to fall into depression and feel powerless when your situation gets bad but maintaining a strong positive mindset is the only thing that will help you surf through the rough waves of life. To help you stand strong and continue your journey I have come up with 3 things that will ensure you keep a tunnel vision perspective on your goals and achieve them no matter what.              Practice gratitude in everything The art of constant gratitude and thanksg
