What defines you ?

What wakes you up every morning? What brings you joy every day? What defines you? In my view asking yourself these 3 questions and having consistent answers to them will bring you towards your definite purpose in life. Brian Tracy was once quoted to say this about your definite purpose : “The one goal that is most important to you at the moment.  It is usually the one goal that will help you to achieve more of your other goals than anything else you can accomplish.”

This week I will highlight 4 major attributes which might help you find your definite purpose and hopefully pull you through.

  • It must be something you want on a personal level. The goal must be the reason you wake up everyday and the mere thought of it should get you pumped up and ready to go.
  • It must be clear and specific. Often times we are subject to drifting because a few weeks or months into working towards our goal we forget it or become distracted by peripheral things. Clearly specify your goal in your mind and if it helps you can write it down.

  • It must be measurable. The are many many definitions of success and you should find a different one for every level you reach in attaining your goal. Every task you do should have a set definition of success and that is how you live a successful day everyday.
  • You must believe it is achievable. There is no harm in starting small while thinking big. A lot of people tend to want quick results not knowing that Rome was not built in a day so take your time and have baby steps which are achievable in the short run and these will boost your belief in the bigger goal.
After having defined your definite purpose which might be for your life or even for the year you must now sit down and strategize. There are a lot of ways one can do this but personally i fancy having an action plan which I will explain in next week's edition. However there are 2 very important notes to self which should be remembered when in pursuit of our goals.

  1. Keep your feet on the ground. This just entails not getting lost in your dreams and losing the very reason you started the whole process. It only takes a split second to change your life so be very careful what seeds you plant in your mind as they can either be your downfall or your call to success.
  2. Do not sabotage yourself. Self destruction is a very common trait amongst human beings. This is where we love the things that are not good for us and always hurt us. Stay away from things that will not help you reach your ultimate goal and this heavily include people and habits.
  3. Just believe. I can sum this point up with one of my favorite verses from the bible : Philippians 4 vs 13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".
If you could be absolutely guaranteed of successfully achieving any goal, large or small, short term or long term, what one goal would it be?  Whatever you answer to this question, if you can write it down, you can probably achieve it.  From then on, the only question you should ask is, ‘How?’  The only real limit is how badly you want it and how long you are willing to work toward it.”

So the question I have for you is: What one great thing would you dare to dream if you knew you could not fail? Have a blessed week and Thank God its Monday
