Sweet are the uses of adversity


When things are bad it is human nature to forget that things are going to get good and when things are good it is also human nature to forget that things are most probably going to get bad. I strongly feel that the main cause or one of the main causes of stress and in time depression is not knowing what to do. When things are going really bad I believe not knowing what to do is the main cause of stress. I believe that we have all been through some level of adversity (a very unpleasant situation) and what separates us is how we react and navigate through these adversities. "Sweet are the uses of adversity, which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in its head" ~ William Shakespeare. To help deal with adverse situations i have compiled a list that will help you cope better with difficult situations : 
  • Learn to take a hit
    One of the most useful skills you are taught in any combat sport is how to take a blow. The reason why people end up losing i believe is because their opponent has landed a blow or a series of blows that cancel out their opponent's strategy. The moment you lose sight of the ultimate goal is the moment that you lose. So whatever blow life throws in your way, you need to stay focused on the ultimate goal.

  • See opportunities
    Pain brings growth. I have been teaching myself to see every kind of "problem" as an opportunity for growth. Science has proven that the human mind is at its sharpest when faced with danger, it is at this time that the fight or flight instincts take charge. You need to use this natural human instinct to seize the opportunities and grow through the "problems". Whatever hardship you are going through, use that to your advantage and allow your mind to see the opportunity and come up with creative ways to overcome.

  • Enjoy the process
    "Long distance running is 90% mental and he other half is physical" ~ Rich Davis. This quote didn't make sense to me until I realised how powerful and significant our minds are when it comes to overcoming and winning. No matter how physically fit one may be, it takes a strong mind to win. The process is one that should be enjoyed, see the slow and steady growth and remember it is the long daunting challenging process that puts the tiger in the cat.
  • Look for positivity
    It can be very easy to look for negativity or something that's wrong in life situations. Actively looking for positivity gives you a much more optimistic approach to life and you will realise how simple life becomes. The next time you go on social media, instead of looking for things that could end up ruining your mood, search for all the worldwide phenomena of kind acts or inspiring inventions or art or music, anything really to wipe out the negativity.
This is going to be an amazing week for you. Don't forget to tell yourself how amazing you are and how gifted you are, this generation is blessed to have you. Believe in your abilities and Thank God its Monday
