Life is a verb
Have you ever wondered how the successful people of this world have managed to get to the positions that they are in and how they have managed to achieve so much in just one lifetime? This previous week we had a very interesting discussion at my church which came from a fellow church member. He titled the topic life is a verb which was based on SUCCESS and HOW TO ACHIEVE IT. For me it was very interesting simply because I am in that phase of my life where its either make or break, the phase which will probably determine what I am going to be doing for the rest of my life. His entire presentation got me thinking about how many people have world changing ideas that we may never get to see all because they choose to live life on autopilot. My firm belief is that anyone who is between the ages of 20 and 30 feels this insatiable urge to do something and change the world or leave their mark on the world and well some just want to get crazy rich regardless of the process. From the discussion we had, we found out that success has many different definitions based on someone’s beliefs and what they want to achieve so maybe you would want to take some time to discover your own definition of success based on what you believe and what you want to achieve. This may feel like a very difficult time in your life but I want to assure you that there is no better time to be you than right now because you are still dreaming and still have the strength and will power to achieve anything that you want in life regardless of your age, gender or background. As always I compiled a list of 5 things that I got from the discussion which I hoe will give you a more positive outlook on your life goals
1. Discover Purpose
Like I have been highlighting in my previous posts, the issue of purpose is a very crucial one in one’s life. “Why am I here” is a question that I have asked myself a lot more times than I could have wanted and assuming that I am normal I am sure a lot of you have also asked yourself that question as well. I strongly believe that no one is here by chance, you were the one that made it out of 450 million and that cannot be coincidence. All successful people who are living happily are always living in purpose. It doesn’t matter what field you are in as long as you are living in your purpose then chances are you are happy and look forward to a new day every day. A friend of mine once defined purpose for me as the one thing that built in to you that you can do for free and still enjoy it, it is that one thought or idea that has never left you and has been a stubborn resident in your minds. So, the first step would be to discover your purpose
2. Refuse to conform
From the discussion we had, I discovered that the non-dictionary opposite of bravery or courage is conformity, which is grounding yourself to the beliefs, attitudes and characters of the people around you. Bear in mind that no 2 people are the same in the sense of what their purpose is and take note that no 2 journeys are the same. Fear of standing out or being an outcast has killed so many dreams over the years. The people that we often surround ourselves with indirectly determine who we become and what we believe in. Ultimately the environment we live in no matter where you are should not determine or restrict how far you go. Create your own environment in your mind and become a success there if the whole world says you can’t be who you want to be. You will find that by doing this you start overcoming the so-called hardships and live the life you want to live
3. Have goals
My goal with this blog is to reach as many people as I possibly can and help them realize that all they need to make it in life is locked deep within them and only they have the power to unlock it which means until I reach as many people as I can I will not stop until that goal is achieved. For everyone, it is very essential that you have a goal that you follow and strive to achieve before you check out of this world. You might be forced to meander around the path to it but trust me all the detours and hurdles are all learning curves that should not shift your focus.
4. Delayed gratification
This one is one of the most painful I have ever had to do but it has become a habit after years of practice. I discovered that most people tend to relax once they reward themselves after an achievement and the reason for this is because they would now want to continue rewarding themselves and that in many cases hinders progress. If your mini goal is to save money, then this is your point. Delaying gratification for as much and for as long as possible keeps you hungry and determined because it is often the level of hunger that makes one more successful than the other. Sheer talent and ability alone is not a guarantee for success, but the 10000 hours in training are literally the x-factor you need to win. So for ever goal you hit enjoy it, savor the moment, pat yourself on the back, take a break but never ever dwell to much on it because once you achieve it, it becomes your biggest obstacle to your next goal.
5. Live in the dream as if it were a reality
There is famous saying which goes like “As a man thinketh so is he”. This didn’t make sense to me until I realized that no one is a success by accident. My advice would be to start your 10000 hours in training as soon as you can and perfect your talents. Just imagine doing the on one thing that your love the most and can do for free, feel the joy that comes when you think about it and just do it. I believe that all dreams die as dreams simply because we refuse to accept them as reality. Every single day you wake up, set aside 15 minutes of just reminding yourself how amazing you are and what a success you are going to become. Whatever it is that you want to do is achievable only and only if you believe it is.
I hope this week is going to be as fruitful as it should be and that you achieve some form of success every single day no matter how small. I recommend a book called the law of attraction, I have just started on it and it is powerful. Have a great week and don’t forget to Thank God Its Monday
